We are experiencing the coldest stretch of below-zero weather ever recorded in the Northeast and upstate New York. Today in Lake Placid, the high was -10 below zero! It’s colder here then in Alaska and even the Arctic circle. Let’s admit it, weather has changed and it’s going to keep changing…
So, what to do when it’s that bloody cold outside!
Here’s a short list of wearables, for inside and outside:
- Long underwear – I wear it every day when it’s cold. My favorite brand is Craft but there are a million others. You can buy it at REI, Amazon, etc. The moment I put it on, I’m 100% warmer!
- Gloves – Swix ski gloves ROCK! Make sure they are fully insulated. I love their mittens too. They let me ski when it’s below zero and still keep my hands warm and toasty.
- Hats – Again Swix skin caps. Check out this cool Norwegian flag hat!
- Ski pants and tops – They are made for this weather! Swix and Craft are the way to go. Need I say more?
And if you’re suffering from cabin fever, here’s a short list of activities.
- Fix your stuff. C’mon, I know you’re putting off chores in the house. Latches loose in the bathroom? Door lock not working? Need to frame and hang a photo? Whatever it is, make your list and get it done. It’s the perfect time for it.
- Binge watch Netflix! Have you seen The Crown? 😉
- Take up a hobby or craft… How about knitting?
- Read that book you’ve been putting off.
- Write that book you’ve been putting off.
- Bake a cake or blueberry pie! YUM!
- Give your dog a bath!
- Want to brave the outside? How about a quick shoveling of the deck and pathways?
- Ice Skating – Be sure to cover your face. It’s so important that no skin is left uncovered. PERIOD!
- Snowshoeing – Once again, cover your skin!
The most important things are layering, skin protection, hydration, and energy/food. Prepare yourselves and stay safe.
Life is for the living so enjoy it! Even when it’s sub-zero weather outside.
