Amtrak actually does go all the way up to Lake Placid, NY! It’s notably one of the most amazing and beautiful train rides in the country. It goes all the way up the Hudson River and then through Albany and Saratoga. You can catch it every day at 8:15am at Penn Station, NYC and arrive at 2pm at Westport, NY.
You need to call a car in advance to pick you up as there is nothing around the station other than a few horse farms. Several taxis and car services pick passengers up every day. And the Westport train station is super cool. It was built in 1876 and has gone through a number of renovations. I love the old wood floors and seating in the waiting area.
It’s about a 35-4o minute ride into Lake Placid – and beautiful farms, countryside, rolling hills, and gorgeous wilderness await you. There’s also FREE wifi through out the trip so you can work, read, research, or post fun photos of your trip on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. You can also buy food and drinks, and by the time you know it you’re there.
Check out this fun, 5 minute video from NYC to Montreal on the train.
So if you don’t want to drive or fly, the train is definitely the way to go! It leaves every day, rain or shine.
