Summer is the perfect time for paddling around the waters of the Adirondacks! Our favorite spot to kayak is Lake Placid itself.

It’s a massive lake (8 kilometers!) and is regulated by the river. It also has the most amazing forests and cliffs! Gorgeous! It took us about 6 hours to kayak the entire perimeter.

If you’re looking for more adventure, there are plenty of paddling routes to take you from one body of water to another.

One of the most popular is Second Pond to Ampersand Bay. On this route you’ll encounter Bluff Island where you can stop for a hike.
Or another option from Second Pond is to paddle to Lake Flower, passing by some excellent mountain views from Oseetah Lake.

Here are some more lakes, ponds, and waterways to check out in the Saranac Lake and Lake Placid regions.
If you don’t have your own boat, Schroon Lake Marina is a great place to rent, since they’ve got canoes, paddle boards, kayaks, motorboats, rowboats, you name it! Captain Marney’s Boat Rentals in Lake Placid also has plenty of boats to rent.
