In the midst of everything we’re going through, it’s so important to remember to get up and move around. While most of us are sheltering in place and many are working from home, it’s too easy to spend the day slouched in the same spot. And that can really make you go stir crazy. One of the simplest ways to improve your mood? Go running!
In Lake Placid, not only will you be breaking a sweat, you can take in some gorgeous scenery while you do it. That goes the extra mile (no pun intended) in raising your spirits. Our region offers mountains, meadows, lakes, forests, and rivers – something for everyone!
There’s River Road, which offers small rolling hills as you run along Ausable River. Views of the the High Peaks and Ski Jumps also give you the variety to keep going.
Then there’s Mirror Lake – sometimes known as Lake Placid’s own “Central Park”. In the center of Lake Placid, Mirror Lake provides a flat 2.7 mile loop that’s perfect for doing laps around.
If you’re looking for something more challenging, try the 9.6 Mile Loop. The Loop offers both flat surfaces and two sharp hills (which you could avoid by running it in reverse). This route echoes the River Road route, but with the addition of the hills and some extra miles.
If you’re already a runner or want some motivation to train, sign up for the Lake Placid Marathon and Half Marathon on June 14th! The race is nationally ranked and also a qualifier for the Boston Marathon. It will take you around Main Street in the Village of Lake Placid, Mirror Lake, and the Olympic Speed Skating Oval. You can register now for a discount.
We hope you are all keeping healthy and safe. Please get in touch if you would like to book a stay at GO-Cottage and take in all the beauty of Lake Placid and the Adirondacks this spring and summer.
