Welcome to January! Here we are in the new year, where 2021 has already proved to be chaotic in its own way. And on top of everything else, it can be hard to feel hopeful when the nights are still long and the days are still cold. But sometimes the best way to beat the January chill is to embrace it! In Lake Placid, we have several wonderful options for ice skating.
You can follow in the footsteps (or should we say skate tracks) of Olympic athletes at the Olympic Speed Skating Oval. Lake Placid hosted the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. In 1980, American speed skater Eric Heiden took the gold at this very rink.
Public skating is open here and will be capacity-controlled to ensure safety. Skate rentals and returns will be available outside as well. It’s a great place to take part in Lake Placid tradition while spending time with friends or family in the open air.
And speaking of tradition — for a classic Adirondack winter activity, try ice skating on frozen Mirror Lake! Every winter, the town of North Elba works to clear a 2-mile ice track around the perimeter of Mirror Lake. You can exercise in the fresh air while taking in our gorgeous mountains views. It even makes for a romantic outing in the evening, surrounded by pine trees and the lights of the town.
Here at GO-Cottage, we’re just a stone’s throw from Mirror Lake and the Olympic Speed Skating Oval. We still have availability for the whole weeks of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 18th, and Presidents’ Day, February 15th. So get in on the old-fashioned fun and book a stay!
