Replacing your sewer line is never sexy, but I thought that word might draw you in. 😉 Please forgive me. But now that you’re here… I’ll bet you want to see and hear all about our new Studio cottage sewer line, right? Well let me tell you – this was a big job and a necessary one.
It all started on the Friday of Labor Day weekend, of all weekends! The toilet decided to start making gurgling noises. I’d flush it and it made sounds in the kitchen!! OMG! I thought: this is not good. So I called our trusted plumbers and within the hour they were here with a snake and a camera. They took off the toilet and sent the snake down the hole. Within minutes he started pulling out a freaking TREE LIMB!! Along with a lot of roots. The good news is no one had put anything down the toilet but the bad news is that the pipes were made of clay and pretty far gone. Nothing like old pipes!
During the dig we unearthed this giant boulder! Rocks like these are everywhere in Lake Placid. I wondered when was the last time this rock saw the light of day!? LOL!! The excavator certainly did its job that day.
We had to dig out the entire flagstone pathway. Not an easy fix.
OMG! Can you believe this? These old clay pipes have seen their day.
Now for some new pipes! Placing pipe is a hard job. But once you get them positioned it’s smooth sailing. These pipes literally just fit together. There’s no glue needed. Just position and fit them together and you’ve got pipes for another 100 years.
The bigger job is putting everything back together. It took another 2-3 days to get all the dirt back in place and packed down. And then the real hard part, placing all the flagstones. You definitely need a lot of sand when working with stones.
Great top soil solves a lot of grass problems. You also need good seed and natural hay.
But after all the hard work, we’re very happy it’s fixed now!
