The Lake Placid Loppet is coming up this weekend, February 27 – March 1! Can’t wait to see everyone there.
The Loppet at Mount Van Hoevenberg is one of the biggest events in Lake Placid, and a personal favorite of mine and Todd’s. It’s a cross-country skiing tournament that takes place every year, drawing people from all over the country. It’s a truly fantastic event that’s always packed!
It’s open to anyone who wants to participate in it, from novices to the top athletes in the world. Even Olympians have competed. You can go to race for yourself or you can go to win! It’s a 25 or 50 Kilometer race starting at the Lodge and ending there too.
One of my most incredible Loppet experiences was seeing a man in his eighties finish the 50 kilometer track!
It can be blow zero at the start of the race, but the past few years, the weather conditions have been great. The race used to take place at the end of January but the last few years it’s been moved to end of Feb/March due to weather conditions. Now we’re guaranteed to have the best snow for the race.
Todd races in it every year. It’s great for the mind, body, and soul. It’s an amazing opportunity to work on your fitness while outside in the beautiful wilderness.
This year the Loppet is on Sunday, March 1st, so get your skis ready and come join us in Lake Placid!
