I’ve enjoyed running since I started taking it seriously over 11 years ago and now consider myself a more than average runner. I continue to run at least 3 times a week for an hour and challenge myself with hills and different intensities. But I still do it for personal reasons. I like to run alone, gather my thoughts from the day, listen to music and let out any frustration that has been built up. I don’t consider myself a competitive runner and have great respect for those athletes who do and those who manage to participate in one or many marathons a year.
On Sunday, June 8th the 10th annual Lake Placid Marathon and Half Marathon will take place, attracting 2100 athletes from all over the world. The race will travel through the Olympic village of Lake Placid, which is located in the beautiful High Peaks Region of Upstate New Yorks Adirondack Mountains. MarathonGuide.com describes this run as similar to the Lake Placid Ironman run course. It will span the beautiful Mirror Lake for the first 3 miles before heading out of town to the Horse Show Grounds (right past GO-Cottage,) Ski Jump area, and River Road along the Au Sable River (A class III trout steam) out-and-back. The course is very scenic including Whiteface Mountain and numerous distant mountain ranges. The Race Finish includes one 400-meter lap around the Sheffield Olympic Oval where U.S. speed skater Eric Heiden captured five individual gold medals at the 1980 Winter Games.
