GO-Cottage Living and Dining Room #DIY #Renovations
When I walk into a beautifully decorated home I notice the style, the great furniture, and accessories that add meaningful flare. But, I also take note of the walls and floors. Probably because I put a ton of effort into renovating the floors, walls and windows of our two-bedroom cottage to make it feel fresh the second you walk in.
Here’s what it looked like before we started. Don’t you love that that “pink” carpet?! LOL!
We performed an exorcism! The paint was this very strange grey pink color. Ugly! Layers upon layers of paint with random mixed-in layers of wallpaper were scraped and fell off the walls in ghostly sheets. It felt like the house wanted to purge itself. And that’s what it did!
Casement windows caked in paint were removed from their hinges, scraped, winterized and had their panes replaced. For a fresh look and feel that really opened up the rooms we painted the walls with an eggshell flat antique beige paint and trimmed with a white shiny high gloss paint that we also used on the windows. Ceilings were painted with a flat white paint adding height. All 3 you can find at Home depot
The other big issue was the floors. When we removed the disgusting carpet we found horrendous residue from years of unkept pets were visible everywhere. It was horrible! The good news is we found the most beautiful original birdseye wood floors! HOW LUCKY WE WERE!
We spent a long weekend sanding and varnishing and brought them back to life. Completely saved!! It was a miraculous achievement. Thank god for those floors!
Check out these after photos! Fresh, open and lovely.
Hope you enjoyed and would love to hear your thoughts on renovation stories.
