Dreaming of a white Christmas? Come on up to Mt. Van Hoevenberg where there’s always snow. And this year there are 5k of brand new, World Championship-certified trails. That makes 55k of cross-country skiing trails!
Mt. Van Hoe has also recently introduced the Cliffside Coaster. It’s the longest Mountain Coaster in the United States! You can take in Adirondack scenery and learn about our local Olympic history while you ride to the top. And on the way down, you can go as fast or slow as you please!
Thanks to special snowmaking machines, Mt. Van Hoe can guarantee a full skiing season. According to SkiTrax, the Snowfactory at Mt. Van Hoevenberg was the first of its kind in North America. This year, the Lake Placid Nordic Center has expanded its snowmaking abilities for an even earlier start to the ski season. So it now also has the best snowmaking for Nordic skiing on the continent!
With guaranteed snow no matter the weather, you can enjoy a peaceful, socially-distanced way to get moving. If you choose to challenge yourself by moving higher on the loops here, you’ll emulate world champions of Nordic skiing.
Lake Placid and Mt. Van Hoe have helped shape several Olympians: Lowell Bailey, Bill Demong, Tim Burke, Annelies Cook and Haley Johnson were all raised in the area and continue to contribute to its rich skiing tradition.
We love coming here to get a fantastic cardiovascular workout while enjoying the serenity of the mountain’s stunning snowy vistas. So come check out Mt. Van Hoe for yourself when you stay at GO-Cottage!
And stay tuned for news about the 2021 Lake Placid Loppet in March.
