As a celebration for buying GO-Cottage many years ago, we decided it was time to remove our old, broken down flower boxes and build new handmade ones. After 80 years or more, the boxes were literally falling off the cottage!
There was no way I was going to plant fresh flowers in them another year. Being DIY-ers of course we decided to build them ourselves.
Here are a few simple steps to make them yourself. It’s fun and pretty easy too.
- Measure your windows
- Buy materials, primed wood, screws, chalk, paint. You can get the wood pre-cut.
- You’ll need a screw gun, a pencil and measuring tape
- 2 saw horses
It’s great to have two people but you can also build them by yourself. Here’s a flower box video for inspiration.
Lots of dirt in these boxes! I removed it all and saved it for the news ones.
Nothing like primed fresh pine.
Get your screw gun and chop saw ready!
You need a lot of screws, depending on how big your box is. Make sure they are Galvanized screws so they last and won’t rust. Doesn’t this look great already?
Old ones gone, new ones coming.
The dynamic duo hard at work.
Freshly painted and almost ready to place them.
Clean and fresh and a perfect fit!
Total cost? $120 for both boxes. Now we are ready for flowers!
