It’s been a COVID-19 kind of summer! So what better way to spend your time than tending to your garden?
Planting beautiful flowers, herbs and vegetables is one of my favorite to-dos. This year, I decided to get into growing lettuces as well as herbs. Our garden at GO-Cottage has red leaf, romaine and green lettuces. It’s important to prune your lettuce a lot, and eat them! Doing this will help them grow and flourish.
We have a variety of herbs in the garden, including thyme, rosemary, cilantro, parsley, oregano, peppermint and basil. Yum! These are great for cooking with — you can make delicious pesto, salad dressing, infused olive oil and even blend the herbs into smoothies.
As far as flowers go, I have a lot of roses that grow naturally and I have kept them as best I can. I chose to plant a couple hydrangeas as well, which are absolutely gorgeous! There is also creeping thyme which has flourished and it is indeed creeping all over the place. My next task is to transplant a few of them along the driveway.
I think next year I will try some tomatoes. I especially love the ones that hang. How has your garden “grown” this summer? If you need inspiration for what else to plant, come check out the Studio garden in person when you stay at GO-Cottage!
