Get Your Happy Hour On With Adirondack Brews

With social distancing still being the safest practice, this summer we’ve really had to make our own fun. Whether you’re isolating with just your family or have expanded your bubble, a great way to feel a little bit of summer normalcy is to host a small (socially distant) backyard happy hour. By picking up some regional craft beer, you can support local businesses too!

And nowhere does craft beer quite like the village of Lake Placid. I’ve traveled the world, from Hong Kong to Lake Tahoe, and the best beer I’ve ever had is right in the heart of Lake Placid, NY. They brew it here by hand! My favourites are IPAs and Pale Ales. If you like your beer hoppy, I can tell you that this is your place.

One of our local brewpubs is the Lake Placid Pub and Brewery. They are currently open for business in their outdoor beer garden and second floor deck. But you can also swing by to pick up beers. Currently, they have 6-packs of their Maui Sour, 12-packs of Big Slide IPA, and crowlers of Giant IPA and Ubu Ale. Their beer is also available to buy throughout New York and the surrounding states, especially the popular Ubu Ale and Big Slide IPA.

Another fabulous Lake Placid option for craft beer is the Great Adirondack Brewing Company. Currently, you can order their beers and merchandise for delivery or local pick up. Check out their list of beers here and try some of the brews that have earned them multiple awards over the years. They even have a non-alcoholic, house-brewed root beer made from pure mountain water and cane sugar.

Looking for a good meal to pair with your next IPA? My favorite is a salmon with red potatoes and buttered corn.

Here’s my recipe, salt and pepper the salmon and let it sit at room temperature for an hour or so. The frying pan should be very hot. Place the butter in until it’s completely melted and then place the salmon on top of the melted butter. Shake the pan so it moves around a bit for 2 minutes then flip it. Takes about 4 minutes and you have perfectly sautéed fresh salmon. Sprinkle with parsley and capers and you’re done. For the potatoes, boil for about 15 minutes, drain, place in a dish, sprinkle with oil, thyme, salt and pepper and bake for 20 minutes. Easy does it.

If you want to be closer to the action, book a stay at GO-Cottage and host your own happy hour in the yard!

I just want to congratulate you on the exquisite job you did on the Cottages! Did I mention how dreamy the beds are? I had my best night's sleep in weeks. Ahhhhh Oh my god! I just want to move in today. You have such lovely taste. It has such a peaceful aura. We all had a wonderful stay. Thank you again.
