This 250 square foot garage has been sitting un-finished since the 1920s, so we decided it was time to fix it up with an external renovation!
Focusing on the exterior, we wanted to freshen it up by shingling the outside, putting on a new roof and repainting the doors and windows.
We chose prefabricated cedar shingles. You can buy them in planks and it’s easier then putting them up 1 shingle at a time. Here’s a video on how to install shingles from Bob Villa. We also decided to go with Federal Blue by Cabot paint to give it a more polished feel.
For the roof we chose: 30 year Cambridge Architectural Shingles in dual black from Land Lumber here in Lake Placid. Read more about the the shingling process in our post about the studio roof renovation, and take a look at this video from This Old House general contractor Tom Silva.
Our dream is to turn this tiny garage into a cozy two-person loft cottage.
Stay tuned for up-coming news about this renovation!
