We are BIG fans and followers of the “farm to table” movement. The movement has been called the “new internet” in terms of impact since fresh food is becoming more and more difficult to buy.
Just think about this: You know the bag of salad you buy at the store each week for $5? It took about 10 days of traveling before it even got to your store. Fresh is not the word I would use! Even organic produce has shipping time written all over it.
The other day we went to Square Roots in Brooklyn to see how they grow hydroponic gardens.
I bought one bag of Arugula and one of Mesclun greens. That night I made a salad out of it and WOW! Those greens were picked just couple hours before we ate it. What an enormous difference it made! So fresh and delicious. For $5 bucks I’d buy it 10 times over!
In Lake Placid and upstate New York, we’re lucky to have some wonderful options for “farm to table”. Firstly, there is an amazing farm called Essex Farm.
They’ve got butter, milk, cheese, and greens! Pick up and even delivery! They started in 2004 and have expanded since.
Believe it or not, you can buy your Maple syrup directly from Cornell! There’s also a great butcher in Lake Placid called Kreature – and it’s just a 2 minute walk from GO-Cottage! Be sure to also check out the amazing Cheese at Temptations on Main Street.
Fresh food is something that we all need to stay healthy. So for eating fresh, “farm to table” is the best!
