Can you believe it’s almost fall?! This summer has just flown by. We’re looking forward to the new season though — autumn in the Adirondacks is simply breathtaking. And there are many fun fall events coming up.
Heritage, Harvest, and Horse Festival
First up is the Heritage, Harvest, and Horse Festival at Fort Ticonderoga on October 2nd. Fort Ticonderoga has been an Adirondack landmark for centuries! The French built this “star fort” between 1755 and 1757 and it played an important role in both the Seven Years’ War and the Revolutionary War. With a stunning location amidst the Green Mountains and near Lake Champlain, it’s a special place to visit in the Adirondacks.
The Heritage, Harvest, and Horse Festival is Fort Ticonderoga’s annual fall festival. It’s a great family activity! You’ll get to meet horses and oxen while learning about the history of working animals here. You can also wander the Heroic Corn Maze and pick up some local treats at the Fort Ticonderoga farmers’ market.
Adirondack Brewery Oktobefest
Now for a day of pure merriment: get your brew on at the Adirondack Brewery Oktoberfest on October 16th. The annual event is a celebration of Bavaria, complete with German delicacies, a beer garden and polka music. You can purchase a ticket here, which includes free parking, a food voucher, unlimited sampling of beer and cider and an Oktoberfest sampler stein. And some of the day’s proceeds will go to The Ben Osborn Memorial Fund for local children.
Lake Placid Film Festival
Finally, for your arts and culture fix, come to the Lake Placid Film Festival October 20th through 24th. Film festival season is in full swing — and we’re lucky enough to have one in our own backyard! The LPFF has hosted industry greats over the years, including Martin Scorsese, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Steve Buscemi, Guillermo Del Toro, Willem Dafoe and Patricia Clarkson.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of LPFF. There will be a tribute dinner for renown Haitian filmmaker Raoul Peck, a Women in Film & TV Panel & Reception and several educational seminars for those who want to learn more about the film industry. And if you want to get in on the backstage action, sign up to volunteer!
We have availability in both cottages, so be sure to book now to reserve your stay for these fun fall events.
