We know there’s still another month of summer, but is anyone else secretly excited for fall’s return? Not only are the Adirondacks gorgeous that time of year, but autumn is also Lake Placid’s unofficial festival season!
Festival of Colors
On Saturday September 14th, Wilmington, NY hosts their annual Festival of Colors. Featuring local artists, bakers, musicians, and farmers, the event has something for everyone. It’s a great day for families, with many children’s activities including a live comedy routine and fall-themed crafts.
Oktoberfest
Next on the festival circuit is the famous Whiteface Mountain Oktoberfest September 28th through 29th. SKI Magazine rated it as one of the five Must-Visit Oktoberfests in North America! Prepare to eat, drink, and be merry with Bavarian food, beer, music, and dancing. Youngsters are welcome too, and 12s and under get free admission. And don’t pass up the opportunity to go for a scenic Cloudspitter Gondola Ride when you’re there.
Lake Placid Film Festival
On October 23rd through October 27th, Lake Placid hosts a whole different kind of festival: the 19th annual Lake Placid Film Festival. Alongside an array of independent films, the festival features parties, a wine tasting, and the Tribute Gala to mix and mingle with your fellow film buffs.
IRONMAN 70.3
But autumn in the Adirondacks isn’t just for festivals. As always, upstate New York has plenty of sporting events in store. If you haven’t gotten your fill of IRONMAN, you can still register for IRONMAN 70.3 Lake Placid on September 8th. Athletes for this event traverse the same course as the full-distance race, but each discipline will be one single loop of the course. And this year, IRONMAN 70.3 Lake Placid will offer 40 qualifying slots to the 2020 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Taupō, New Zealand.
Lake Placid Classic
If IRONMAN 70.3 sounds too intense for your liking, try the Lake Placid Classic on October 12th. This half marathon and 10k is truly a classic, now in its 49th year! The crisp autumn air and famously friendly atmosphere make for a really special race. And a majority of race entries and sponsorships are donated to local youth organizations. So, what more could you want!
Are you feeling that autumn anticipation yet? We still have plenty of availability at GO-Cottage this season, so book your fall getaway now!
