Baby, it’s cold outside. So get out there and ski! There’s no better place than Whiteface Mountain. It’s one of the highest peaks in New York and of course our favorite in the country.
At 4,865 feet tall, it offers some pretty spectacular views and 87 trails. Since it stands alone from the other high peaks, you can see all the lakes in the region including Mirror Lake and Lake Placid itself.
There are some fun Whiteface events coming up. On December 11, it’s Santa’s Ski Free Day – so put on your Mr. and Mrs. Claus outfits for a free day of skiing. The Lake Placid Freestyle Cup is January 13 & 14. Watch ski jumpers compete on moguls at the Olympic Jumping Complex.
I was fortunate to learn how to snowboard on Whiteface. I fell a lot but it was such a fun experience and I can’t believe how much I learned. If you’ve never skied or snowboarded before, I highly recommend taking a one hour lesson. It will change your life!
Everyone that works at Whiteface is super friendly and helpful. There are also some great passes and deals you can get when planning your trip.
And since it’s just a ten minute drive from GO-Cottage and downtown Lake Placid, it couldn’t be more convenient to come back and relax after a long day on the slopes.
