Building it was simple! We dug out the grass and created a bed about 4-5 inches deep. We used a measuring tool to create a path that was consistently 3ft wide and approximately 50ft long.
The only materials needed were 5 sand-bags and two large palettes of flagstone. We also used 2 shovels, a rake, a hoe and a lot of elbow grease. We purchased our sand at Aubuchon Hardware and used something similar to Polyblend Sanded Grout
The flagstone was purchased at Asplin Tree Farm. We poured sand on top of the dirt, pushed stones into the sand, and then covered the path with sand and water. Sand is just like cement. It’s durable, lasts forever, and the stones won’t move.
The project took only three days to complete! The hardest part was carrying the stone because its super heavy. Our arms, legs and back muscles were pretty sore by the end of the day but it was all worth it.
It’s amazing what you can do with your imagination, a good plan, time and energy. Such a simple design but extremely effective! Here’s what it looks like today!
